Wednesday night (11/8), my good friend and pending podcast co-host came over. The podcast will be called “Revealing Voices: The Mental Health podcast raising unanswered questions, sharing unanswered prayers.” It is an extension of our mission here at Delight in Disorder. Our goal is to produce 20 episodes each year filled with news, views, reviews, and interviews about the relationship between faith and mental illness. Eric and I will share our own experiences as followers of Christ who both have bipolar disorder.

We met in my basement studio (now dubbed “Revealing Voices World Headquarters.”) Eric brought a Chik Fil A Southwestern salad topped with fried crinkly things and pistachios. I nursed the last of my dark roast Green Mountain Magic Espresso. It was 8:30 pm and the next 2 1/2 hours were filled with creative dialogue, respectful debate, and healing laughter. Much laughter.

We discussed many things. What other successful podcasts are doing. What to learn from poorly produced ones. Recording equipment we would need. Music to score our show. Images and narrative for our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. In some ways, it was intense, but in a fun way. I thought of the saying I once heard (not sure who said it), “Enjoy what you do and you will never have a work another day in your life.

I recorded the whole session, both for the sake of keeping us on track, and also to compile sort of an “out-take” recording as a perk for our contributors. To get a sense of how much productive fun we were having, look at this:

Tony: So, what are we up to 1,2,3000? I think we can do everything for $3,000.

Eric: 3,000 is fine.

Tony: Yeah, because we are investing in the program. And we want contributors who will become invested listeners.

Eric: Right.

Tony: And we looked at other podcast promotions. They were asking between 2 & 3,000 and they won’t be nearly as good as ours.

Eric: That’s right. Fair enough. Yes, we are professional aspiring podcasters.

Tony: We are on the cutting edge.

Eric: Pioneers. We are Revealing Voices.

Tony: We are revealing voices where no voice has gone before.

Eric: (laughing) That ought to be our tagline.

We had a blast. It’s our hope that through Revealing Voices we will encourage others who wrestle with faith and mental illness to have a good laugh. Not the sort of laugh that comes at the expense of others. But laughter shared with others over the foibles of being flawed human beings.

We hope you will join us to pray that program gives glory to God and is a blessing for others. Our Indiegogo campaign begins just 10 days from now (November 20). Pre-production costs are estimated at $3,000. We hope you will give generously, according to what you have received. Our goal is to plant a seed of 20% ($600) on the first day, to show others we have broad support and that they can contribute with confidence we will be successful.

I would love to hear what you would like to hear on our podcast. We are in the initial stages of deciding on content. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, you can send them to me through the contact page you’ll find at the right side of this website header.

What unanswered questions and unanswered prayers do you have?
